Texas woman charged for suspected scheme to poison ex-husband with fentanyl-laced chocolates

Texas Woman Charged in Unusual Poison Plot

Last week, a woman in Texas faced charges after authorities claimed she attempted to poison her ex-husband with chocolate laced with fentanyl. The bizarre twist? The chocolate was disguised as a honeymoon gift, supposedly sent to her by a travel agency to celebrate his recent engagement.

Pamela Jean Stanley, 63, from Coleman, was arrested on May 30 after a probe initiated by the Parker County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Crime Unit (SCU). According to Sheriff Las A. Authier, Stanley had planned to send her ex-husband the tainted chocolate wrapped in what appeared to be a celebratory gift.

Authorities indicated that Stanley expressed intentions to inject powdered fentanyl into premium chocolates, believing it would be a clever ruse when mailing a fake honeymoon promotion. She was tipped off, prompting the investigation.

SCU officers arranged to meet her in the parking lot of the Scotland Inn Motel in Weatherford, posing as fentanyl suppliers. Reports suggest she traveled from Coleman, Texas, for several hours to finalize the deal.

Upon her arrival, Stanley was taken into custody after accepting what she believed were fentanyl samples. A search of her vehicle later uncovered 11.76 grams of methamphetamine, which tested positive in the field and was subsequently logged into evidence.

As for charges, Stanley was formally charged on July 10 with three felonies: conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Her bond has been set at $450,000.

“The investigation progressed swiftly, thanks to information from both SCU investigators and concerned citizens,” Sheriff Authier remarked.
