The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) sent officers to the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to text messages recently obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
The CIA is generally prohibited from spying on American citizens, leaving that job to the FBI. In fact, on the FBI website, state: “The CIA collects information only about foreign countries and their nationals. Unlike the FBI, it collects information about “American persons,” a term that includes U.S. citizens, resident aliens, legal immigrants, and U.S. businesses, regardless of their location. Collection is prohibited. ”
However, text messages obtained Judicial Watch revealed that “multiple” teams were sent to the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Justice Department turned over documents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms after Judicial Watch sued the department for failing to respond to FOIA requests. The text message’s headline was “January 7th Intel Chain.”
A series of text messages said “two CIA bomb technicians” were assisting with “pipe bomb sites in New Jersey and D ST SE.” This is where two pipe bombs are said to have been left at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee.
Another series of text messages read: “Several CIA dog teams on standby.”
“These astonishing records demonstrate that CIA resources were deployed in response to the January 6 riot,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
This is the first time the CIA’s role in responding to events at the Capitol has been revealed.
