Transgender Lawmaker Faces Charges for Child Abuse and Pornography

The first openly transgender lawmaker in the U.S. raised a troubling question about the afterlife after her involvement in a horrific case concerning the abuse of a young child at a daycare in Massachusetts.

Stacey-Marie Lawton, who is 41 and formerly known as Barry Lawton, recently pleaded guilty to serious charges stemming from an incident that has sent shockwaves through the community. Lawton and her partner, 40-year-old Lindsey Groves, traded explicit images of minors, which has led to a potential sentence of up to 30 years for Lawton.

During court proceedings, disturbing text messages highlighted their conversations about inappropriate fantasies. In these exchanges, Lawton, a former state legislator, encouraged Groves to engage in abusive behavior towards children in her care.

Groves sent explicit images of children aged 3 to 5, all taken during her time at Creative Minds Daycare in Chingsboro, Massachusetts, where she worked from May 2022 until June 2023.

Amidst these grotesque discussions, Lawton expressed concern over the possibility of arrest, sharing in a text, “If I get arrested, I don’t want to get arrested.” This acknowledgment shows an awareness of the legal implications of their actions.

Lawton, a Democratic politician, had a turbulent political career. After being elected in 2012, he resigned before taking office due to a conviction for credit card fraud. He later served from 2020 to 2022 before resigning again after being arrested for stalking.

In another text exchange, Lawton questioned whether he could still be a pastor, despite his criminal behavior. He asked Groves, “Do you think God is okay with us being bad kids?” expressing uncertainty about their moral standing.

Groves replied, reassuring Lawton that they would still transcend these actions: “Yes, God is OK with that. We will still go to heaven.” This kind of reasoning, reflected in their conversations, certainly raises eyebrows.

The extent of their crimes became known in June 2023, when Lawton shared images with a third party, claiming he wasn’t a “child pervert” but wanted to showcase evidence.

This alarming incident led to immediate action, prompting a call to police, and both Lawton and Groves are set for sentencing in February.
