TGL has us interested, but here is where things need to improve

Hello! my name is RJ OchoaYou may not know me here at Playing Through, but I am dallas cowboys The website is here at SB Nation (shout out Blogging The Boys) and I'm an avid golfer, golf fan, and golf enthusiast. It worked out for me that the Cowboys were kind enough to put an end to their disastrous season in time for the start of TGL's first season. jack milco He was kind enough to let me talk about it!

I think this context is necessary to assess what TGL is, what it can be, and honestly what it should be. I spend a lot of my personal life watching the NFL, and I spend all of my professional life watching the NFL. Needless to say, they are the gold standard for creating products that people want, need, and flock to. TGL will never do that, but on Tuesday night they did the very difficult thing of opening the door and breaking into the mansion of our interest. It's fine to make them a cup of coffee and let them sit for a while, but if they're going to open a store, they'll have to do a little more.

To be clear, I'm not rushing TGL. They have just left the ground and have not even reached the altitude where we are allowed to take out our electronics.

But as someone who was bitten by the bug on Tuesday night, there are a few things I'd like to see in the coming weeks.

There are three here.

1. The hole needs to change or there needs to be a serious relationship with the hole

One of our favorite things about each golf season is our relationship with golf. We know the tournaments, holes, moments, history, etc. Obviously something like masters is the pinnacle, but the important thing is that golf fans know the details. golf That's what happens every week on tour.

We are fully aware that we have only played one game in TGL and we need to spice up the hole or understand why it keeps showing up over and over again . The only hole that stood out on opening night was Please choose loot It was just because of its silly name. I couldn't tell you anything special about any of them, so I was concentrating on them. Perhaps part of it may have to do with a ton of new stuff being thrown in at once, but part of this golf outing is again golf.

Because TGL is built around a simulator, it has the ability to create holes that would be impossible in real life, and it partially showed off this. Why aren't some holes completely surrounded by lava? I know that in some holes there was lava where there would normally be water, but what I'm talking about is breaking the traditional mold. It's about. This may be an extreme example, but it's something to keep in mind! Imagine when Ricky sinks it into lava on his way to it. People say:

If you're not going to create an iconic hole, you have to have memories like Rickie Fowler, which I created. Perhaps they will come over time, but the league would do well to make an effort to create that chance.

2. This is obviously a show, but let's relax a little about the production values.

If I had to explain TGL to someone who has no idea what it is, I would say it's a combination of golf, Top Golf, WWE, networking events, and the Las Vegas Sphere.

This is obviously not golf, but it's golf-adjacent so golf has to be the focal point. I think I've made this point pretty clear.

It's all well and good for TGL to be an arena event, but we don't need it to go crazy with overhead lights circling every second like it does when a new question is asked. Who wants to be a millionaire?. For those who think so, golf is cool, and for those who don't, smoke and mirrors won't convince them. Again, this was all the first match, so I'm not pretending this is some kind of future act.

It takes some extra assets and variables to give something like this momentum and push. Hopefully this is it. But the root of what TGL ends up being is that it needs to be somewhat golf-related, and not overly fake.

3. TGL already needs to think about and tease out evolution.

A lot has been said about the fact that TGL will include a simulator screen the size of Neptune, which is pretty cool. But I want to remind everyone…this is a simulator! Use it!

To be clear, this should not only be used for my genius lava pit suggestion, but also in ways that those of us at home can get involved. That's what it means. All these hypothetical holes should be readily available in golf video games. EA Sports, 2k, whoever your favorite manufacturer is…TGL is a place where you and I can choose our own spoils and build relationships where they mean something to us. We need to fully partner with them so that we can.

TGL has spent a lot of time thinking and planning for the future, whatever it wants to be. I'll say it again and again AlsoI realize we're one game behind, but if you want to keep us hooked, you've got to put a lot of meat on the bone for us to eat. Make fun of things like this. Please let us know if they are possible. You can finally step outside of the concept of golf and think from there.

Along these lines…golf fans have been clamoring for mixed events for some time now…TGL is also perfect for incorporating mixed teams. You can even feature an all-female team or an all-senior team, and the possibilities for golf simulator elements are endless. You could have Nelly Korda or Jack Nicklaus here, just like you could have Matt Fitzpatrick or Windham Clark. Use the outside part of the box!
