In the grand scheme, the current golf season is still relatively early. Right now, he’s participating in the Truist Championship, with the PGA Championship lined up next week as his second major this season.
Despite the buzz around us, the inaugural TGL season feels like a thing of the past. Overall, the TGL proved to be quite successful, providing a sneak peek of golf before the main events kicked off. I find myself curious about what my second year will bring.
There have been whispers about expanding TGL, with Texas emerging as a prime candidate. With players like Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Will Zalatoris from Texas, it makes sense if the initiative continues to thrive.
Interestingly, Texas might not be alone when it comes to new teams next season. Just recently, TGL Holdings submitted a trademark application that hints at the introduction of a Chicago team.
Additional trademark applications were also filed for the Chicago Link Golf Club and the Texas Golf Club, indicating ongoing expansion efforts.
It’s clear that the windy city presents a substantial sports market, making it a viable target for TGL. To date, they have teams in both Los Angeles and New York, showing they want to cover all the crucial locations.
On the potential roster for Chicago, Matt Fitzpatrick, currently with the New York Golf Club, has Northwestern ties. As of now, I haven’t seen any concrete deals in the works with TGL, but given the newness of the operation, anything is possible.
There’s definitely more to come.
