The White House on Wednesday criticized House Republicans for not withdrawing their impeachment inquiry into President Biden, calling the hearings earlier in the day an embarrassment for Republicans.
“That hearing was an embarrassment for House Republicans. A complete waste of time. It’s time to move on from this sad charade and address the real issues that the American people want us to address. ,” White House investigative press secretary Ian Sams said in a statement.
The White House has called on Republicans to halt the impeachment inquiry from the beginning, calling it a waste of time, but now insists the investigation is over. White House Counsel Ed Siskel sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) last week claiming that months of efforts to expose Biden’s wrongdoing have been fruitless.
Republicans invited Biden’s son Hunter Biden and two witnesses with little connection to his business dealings to Wednesday’s hearing.
Some Republicans have criticized the investigation and expressed doubts it will lead to a formal impeachment trial.
A small number of conservative media figures are also questioning whether the impeachment inquiry should proceed. Newsmax host Rob Finnerty pressed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Wednesday about whether the investigation was progressing, adding: “It seems like they’re chasing their tail at this point.”
