Florida Republican Rep. Hillary Cassel explained her decision to switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party on Fox News on Monday.
Monaka exterior On “The Ingraham Angle,” Cassel spoke about the moment he realized he no longer wanted to be part of the Democratic Party. Mr. Cassel, who is Jewish, cited his previous experience with anti-Semitism within the party as a factor.
“That's a moment that will stay with me forever. You know, I joined the Democratic Party and I understand that this is a big tent that allows for a diversity of ideas and beliefs,” Cassel said. “Shortly after October 7, we were on the floor of the House of Representatives debating and debating a bill in support of Israel. And I had to debate with my Democratic colleagues who introduced the resolution while we were still hostages. But that was just after October 7th.
The discussion that took place was over legislation to support Israel. During the debate, a resolution was introduced by a Democratic colleague, a move that worried Kassel given the ongoing hostage crisis involving Israeli citizens.
“Rather than my colleagues rallying around this issue, this issue is so important not just to me, but to my community, to America, and to our entire democracy, that it ensures that the Jewish people have a state. . . . I was told I should have sat down and been quiet,” Ms. Cassel told Kayleigh McEnany. “It was a moment for me where I completely disconnected from the party and felt like an opportunity for us all to come together on an issue that was non-negotiable to me. But instead I was told to sit down. is.”
kassel announced She made the decision last week to transfer power from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
“This decision was not made lightly and comes from a deep sense of responsibility to my constituents and a commitment to the values that guide my service,” Cassel said in a social media post.
Earlier this month, Florida Congresswoman Susan Valdez revealed She left the Democratic Party because she felt ignored by the party.
“I do not intend to waste my last two years in the Florida Legislature being ignored by a caucus whose leadership expects me to ignore the needs of our communities,” Valdez wrote.
