A Chicago pastor recently expressed his strong views regarding the situation in his city, particularly in relation to claims made by Democrats about crime rates. He argued that the assertions being made are, quite frankly, misleading.
While some Chicago officials have pointed to statistics indicating a drop in crime, Pastor Corey Brooks countered this narrative. In an interview with “Fox & Friends,” he shared his perspective on the matter.
“We still have a mother burying young boys, and our sons are prematurely dying. That’s a serious problem.”
Brooks, who leads a violence prevention initiative named Project Hood, labeled the current crime situation as severe enough to warrant federal intervention. He highlighted that there have been 254 homicides this year, with a staggering 80% of the victims being Black males.
“It’s simply not true for anyone in our community to claim that things are improving and that safety is a reality!” he remarked.
According to Brooks, maintaining public safety should be a primary focus for local leaders. “One of the government’s primary goals is to keep American citizens safe. This ought to be a top concern for the governor and the mayor, but it’s not,” he stated. “The only thing they seem to prioritize is whether Black lives matter when the vote comes into play.”
While federal actions in places like Washington, D.C., have stirred backlash from local officials, some, like D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, have acknowledged that such measures were effective in combating rampant crime.
Brooks reiterated, “Crime continues to be a significant concern in Chicago.”
“We still have a mother burying young boys, and we’re witnessing premature deaths. This is unacceptable. It’s wrong to portray a false sense of improvement,” he added.
Ultimately, he believes that solutions to crime must be pursued locally, but he suggested that a federal presence could assist those local efforts. “The National Guard might see their role as temporary, but their presence can certainly ease the situation,” he concluded. “Organizations like ours are dedicated to providing ongoing solutions and support. But we must speak out.”
