This year, they surveyed over 599 veterans, focusing on financial aspects like living costs and home affordability. They compiled a list that includes both bustling cities and charming small towns, highlighting the best locations for veterans to put down their roots.
The top ten cities feature a blend of urban energy and small-town tranquility. Topping the list is a relaxed coastal area known for its welcoming community.
1. Myrtle Beach – Conway – North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Premiering at number one, the Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach area presents a vibrant coastal lifestyle along with robust community support.
There are over 28,000 veterans here, making up about 8% of the population. The area stands out for its community support and quality of life infrastructure.
South Carolina offers veterans a complete property tax exemption for those with disabilities and has no tax on military retirement benefits.
Families can receive care at the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center nearby. Plus, with over 60 miles of beautiful beaches, numerous golf courses, and various local events, the area has a lot to offer.
