Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina seem to have a straightforward way to end their difficult relationship.
Important dates are approaching.
Starting June 1st, Belichick’s buyout clause decreases from $10 million to just $1 million, providing him with a much more enticing option to leave UNC if he chooses to exit.
This clause was initially believed to be a potential route back to the NFL for Belichick, who currently holds a five-year, $50 million contract with UNC, especially after not securing a job during recent hiring cycles.
However, the ongoing drama involving Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, might lead him to rethink whether the job is worth the hassle.
The couple has drawn media attention since a viral video emerged showing Hudson on the field with Belichick during a recent practice at UNC.
They faced further scrutiny following a problematic interview on “CBS Sunday Morning.” Earlier this month, it was reported that Hudson “forced” a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial featuring Belichick that aired during Super Bowl 2025.
In addition, reports surfaced that Hudson insisted on filming a version of an underdog fantasy commercial that included her in a bikini by a pool beside Belichick.
There were claims that Hudson had been banned from attending Tar Heels practices, but UNC’s Athletics department refuted this, clarifying that while she is not an employee of the college, she is welcome at the soccer facilities. They stated that Hudson would continue to manage all activities related to Belichick’s personal brand outside his responsibilities with Carolina football.
Family members have expressed concern regarding Hudson’s influence, suggesting it could tarnish Belichick’s legacy. There were also reports from late April indicating that UNC officials were worried about Hudson’s impact and that it might escalate into a more significant issue.
A former Patriots player mentioned that UNC ought to think about letting Belichick go amid all this unfolding drama.
