American golf fans are in for another week of “Breakfast Golf” as the 152nd British Open Championship gets underway at Royal Troon Golf Club.
This week players from both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will be teeing up. This year’s Open will see 158 players from around the world take part, and Royal Troon will undoubtedly be a test for them all, with unpredictable weather, wind and possibly rain creating problems for the competition.
Troon’s famous bunkers also play an important role, as any shot that goes into them is punished, particularly the coffin bunker on the short, par-3 eighth hole, a 123-yard hole known as “The Postage Stamp.”
Defending champion Brian Harman is looking to become the first player to win back-to-back titles since Padraig Harrington, who won in 2007 and 2008. But the British Open is an unpredictable tournament and this year’s field is highly skilled.
Here’s how you can watch every British Open match.

British Open Preview:
The last time Royal Troon hosted the tournament, Henrik Stenson won the Claret Jug in 2016 after an iconic showdown with Phil Mickelson.
Defending champion Brian Harman is bidding for a second major victory but his unfamiliarity with Royal Troon could make it difficult.
The field features 19 former champions, including legends such as Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods.
This year, 37 golfers will be making their debut in the tournament.
One of the debutants will be Ludvig Åberg. The 24-year-old had a strong start last week but struggled to come away with a win on Sunday. Despite the loss, the young Swedish phenom still has a good chance of winning his first major championship.
Rory McIlroy is looking to end his major championship winless streak after a dramatic and heartbreaking ending to the U.S. Open. He performed well enough to tie for fourth at the Scottish Open last week, but McIlroy’s putter let him down.
There are also plenty of notable LIV players, including Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, David Puig and Tyrrell Hatton.
If DeChambeau plays like he did at Pinehurst, he could win two majors in one year. He’s very confident in his game right now and will be tough to beat.
After a lengthy break, Scottie Scheffler is back in the running for his second major championship in 2024. In his last start three weeks ago, he won the Travelers Championship, marking his sixth win of the season. But a well-rested Scheffler could pose a problem for the other competitors.
Players like Aaron Lai, Collin Morikawa, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Koepka, Hatton, Shane Lowry and Tony Finau could do something special this week. These players are on a roll this week and that momentum could carry over to Troon.
Royal Troon will feature the kind of mayhem golf fans want to see at a major championship, with the scores likely to be very similar to those at the U.S. Open earlier this year.
Because Scotland is so far north, the sun rises at 4:40am local time and doesn’t set until around 10pm, allowing everyone to tee off on the first hole.
