MTV has reminded us all just how annoying awards ceremonies are, and given us yet another reason to hate them.
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards aired on Wednesday, a boring extravaganza of weird costumes and lackluster performances. There was once a time when talented singers could clash with entertaining dancers and create magic on stage, but that time has clearly passed. In its place has emerged a flurry of awkward artists with no talent for shaking their butts to disguise a severe lack of actual singing ability, and revealing costumes that are a total disaster.

MTV's decision to bring in Megan Thee Stallion to host the event dashed any hopes of a good show: she barely filled the hosting position, was too self-absorbed, and polluted the show with more Megan talk than we needed to.
Megan Thee Stallion made her own mistake by appearing onstage in a risqué green bikini top, teal skirt, metallic shorts and with a real python wrapped around her neck, in an attempt to pay homage to Britney Spears' epic 2001 entrance, but which ended up just reminding us what a total loser Megan is.
She was unable to cope with the python wrapped around her body and was unable to keep her cool. She looked very nervous, but quickly called out and gave up. “OK!” she said. “Stop the music, stop the music. I'm just playing. Get this snake!” she yelled. The snake was removed as she continued, “I don't know this snake and this snake doesn't know me.” Megan Thee Stallion screamed, showing that her level of fear was real. No one can recreate Spears' moment on stage at the MTV VMAs, especially Megan.
Addison Rae didn't have to come all the way here. #VMAs pic.twitter.com/v6tpXGPPc2

Addison Rae provided some much-needed levity when she showed up in granny panties, a weirdly saggy bra, and a tutu that looked like Victoria's Secret angel wings sprouting from her butt. This strangely deconstructed ballerina outfit made her look shabby, and was matched by a weirdly timid voice that we'd never heard from Rae before, and will never hear again.
She had the back of her dress showing at the time, but it was clear she had heard the photographers' not-so-polite requests — and, as we all know, Chapel is not playing — as she turned her head and yelled, “Shut up!!!”
Chapel Lawn was on the red carpet at New York's UBS Arena when a photographer yelled at her and she got into a heated argument, stopping her from striking an awkward pose and scolding the photographer. “Shut up!” she yelled. The show had several highlights, including Eminem's epic performance reminiscent of his Slim Shady days, reminding fans that it's about skill on stage, not bare butts. Lenny Kravitz, along with Quavo, added undisputed rock energy to the show, as they wowed the crowd with amazing performances of “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Fly,” and “Human.”
