Editor-in-Chief Marcus freedomrecently published an article detailing her sexual assault allegations in an article entitled “After Rape: A Guide for the Survived.” In the original article published on January 2, she did not mention Mounk by name. On Sunday, Marcus went to X. atlantic ocean Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg and Executive Editor Adrienne LaFrance spoke out about her allegations against Mounk.

“Exactly four weeks ago I [Goldberg] & [LaFrance] Email below telling me my rapist is at work [The Atlantic]” she wrote. “Mr. Goldberg responded that he takes this allegation extremely seriously. He has not received any updates since then.”
“I will not be raped with impunity,” she added.

In an email dated Jan. 7, Mr. Marcus named Mr. Mounk as a contributor. Atlantic Ocean:
I just published an essay about rape, including my own experiences with rape, in Liberty’s magazine, where I am editor-in-chief. As you can see from the essay, my rapist was a writer working for a magazine. It’s been two and a half years since the rape, and I think it’s past time for everyone to know that the rapist was Yasha Mounk. Your famous publication has a rapist on staff. After midnight on June 25, 2021, he raped me in my apartment. Trust me, this is not some far-fetched or mischievous claim. I’m not sure how I’m going to proceed with the story, but I’ll tell you and a few reporters who contacted me in connection with another very similar case and expressed interest in this story.
Mr. Goldberg responded the next day, saying that Mr. Marcus and his publication “take this allegation extremely seriously.”
Mounk denied the charges in a statement. mediaite: “I am aware of the horrific allegations against me. They are completely untrue.”
of atlantic ocean After Marcus published their email exchanges at X, he later issued a statement describing Mounk as a “freelance contributor” rather than an employee.
“We are aware of the allegations regarding freelance contributors to The Atlantic,” said Anna Bross, director of Atlantic Communications.
We take such allegations seriously. The accused freelance contributors are not employees of Atlantic. We have not published any new work by this freelance contributor since we learned of the accusations, and we terminated our relationship with the freelance contributor last month when we first learned of the accusations. Of course, we will continue to monitor possible new developments on this issue.
Marcus later told Mediaite that Goldberg “chose to reserve transparency” about any actions taken against Maunk.
“He has chosen to withhold transparency about the actions taken after my allegations, if they were taken at all,” she said.
“I cannot overstate how painful that choice was for me. I was prepared for the pain that the investigation would definitely cause, but that pain meant an opportunity to give evidence and make my case. “It will be tempered by the fact that there is,” Marcus continued. “I wasn’t prepared to be ignored.”
