'The Bear' writer removed from MTA train, says he was arrested after 'older white woman' complained about his seating position

Controversial Incident on Metro North Train Involves “The Bear” Writer

Alex O’Keefe, a writer known for the Emmy-winning show “The Bear,” recently claimed he was arrested after a confrontation on a Connecticut Metro North train. This incident arose when he was approached by an MTA officer following a complaint regarding his behavior, which was made by a white woman on the train.

O’Keefe recounted the experience via an Instagram reel, describing how the officer asked him to exit the train based on the woman’s remarks about how he was seated. He expressed disbelief, questioning the rationale behind arresting him over such a complaint.

According to an MTA spokesperson, officers were called to address reports of disorderly conduct on a train headed to New Haven. The incident occurred around 10:25 am, as the train was about to leave Fordham Metro North Station in the Bronx. The spokesperson detailed that a passenger was observed stretching his legs across multiple seats, contributing to the complaint.

O’Keefe mentioned that he was confronted by a masked woman who requested that he remove his feet from her seat. When he didn’t comply, she alerted the conductor, who then indicated that he might have to delay the train’s departure and summon the police.

The spokesperson from the MTA stated that O’Keefe did not follow the officers’ requests to exit the train, even after being informed he could board a subsequent train to Connecticut. Due to his refusal, O’Keefe was handcuffed, resulting in a six-minute delay for other passengers.

Although O’Keefe was not formally arrested, he received a court summons for disorderly conduct and was able to board the next train shortly thereafter. The MTA maintained that he was not arrested during the incident.

O’Keefe asserted that racial dynamics played a significant role in the situation. He noted that he was removed from the train without police taking statements from the woman who filed the complaint, suggesting a bias in how the authorities handled the situation.

He expressed frustration over the incident on social media, highlighting the uneven treatment he received and stating, “This country is growing more psychos by day.” The event has sparked widespread discussion on platforms like TikTok, where users have condemned the way he was treated.

Besides his work on “The Bear,” O’Keefe has written speeches for prominent Democratic figures such as Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.
