Scott Galloway, a professor at NYU and a prominent liberal podcast host, recently voiced his criticism of the Biden family, suggesting their “narcissism” has negatively impacted the country.
During a recent podcast episode he co-hosts with journalist Kara Swisher, Galloway discussed how he believes former President Biden’s approach to the 2024 election could affect his “legacy.” He pointed out that Biden’s decision to ensure Kamala Harris was his designated successor during last year’s campaign trail indicates a lack of strong candidates within the party.
Galloway remarked, “The reality is she is not a strong candidate, which reflects poorly on President Biden.” He argued that after Biden’s potential exit from the race, there should have been a significant primary challenge similar to what faced Donald Trump in the past.
He elaborated on this, reminiscing about a hypothetical primary system he imagined: “I was thinking of a mini ‘shark tank’ style where the best candidates could compete. It would’ve captivated the media.”
Despite his critiques of Harris, Galloway acknowledged her efforts, saying, “I think she did well with the circumstances she was presented.” However, he noted that she didn’t actively campaign in Iowa four years ago, which is significant.
Galloway has also shared thoughts on the situation surrounding the Democrats, discussing how Biden’s choices left room for rivals in the primary. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi indicated that an earlier withdrawal by Biden could have led to a more open race. She expressed that if he had exited sooner, more candidates might have emerged.
Lindy Lee, a former representative for Harris and a DNC fundraiser, also criticized Biden soon after his campaign’s end, interpreting his actions as dismissive to the party. She remarked that Biden’s support vanished shortly after he withdrew, which she viewed as disrespectful.
Furthermore, some Democrats argue that Biden placed Harris in a challenging position by tying her closely to his agenda. A book by journalists Jonathan Allen and Amy Parnes suggested Biden instructed Harris to publicly claim she would pursue her paths, despite sounding control over her campaign moves.
During the podcast, Galloway reflected on Biden’s claims about Harris’ ability to run effectively and the consequences of her losses: “I understand the sympathy towards him, but it’s damaged his legacy, in my opinion.”
As of now, Biden’s representatives have yet to respond to requests for comment.
