Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Sea Makes Its Debut
The world’s largest cruise ship, the Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Sea, launched from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday. This massive vessel features eight neighborhoods, 20 decks, and seven pools, with a capacity to host 5,000 passengers.
Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, described the Star of the Sea as a significant milestone in redefining vacations. He emphasized that the ship combines innovation, unique experiences, and popular destinations for an unforgettable journey.
“As a leader in the industry, we are not just launching another ship; we are striving to create the best vacation experiences for guests of all ages,” he added.
In January, AAA predicted that about 19 million Americans would embark on a cruise this year. Stewart Chillon, a Miami-based cruise expert, noted that 2025 is set to be a record-breaking year, with future bookings at an all-time high.
Last year, around 18.2 million travelers took to the seas, indicating a robust market for cruising, especially in regions like the Caribbean, Alaska, and Europe.
Chillon observed that the Caribbean continues to attract a large number of travelers seeking sunny getaways, while also noting growing interest in destinations such as the Panama Canal and expedition cruises in remote areas like the Arctic and Antarctic.
However, despite this surge in popularity, he pointed out that the cruise industry must stay vigilant. Geopolitical factors and fuel prices remain pressing concerns, but the industry has built-in mechanisms to adapt to such challenges. “Ensuring the safety of passengers and vessels is always our top priority,” Chillon remarked.
