Elon Musk’s Boring Company Proposes Underground Tunnel at Universal Orlando

Elon Musk’s Boring Company has been chosen to start discussions about a proposed subway system at Universal Orlando Parks. This decision came following a vote by the Shingle Creek Transportation and Utilities Community Development District Board.

During their meeting on February 11, the board concluded that the proposal from The Boring Company aligned best with their goal for an “innovative, future-proof, point-to-point solution.” They authorized staff to begin contract negotiations with the company.

The objective of this project is to enhance transportation infrastructure, addressing the needs linked to the planned Sunshine Corridor and expansion efforts around Universal Orlando.

However, it’s important to note that this decision doesn’t finalize the contract.

Any agreement would still need board approval, and officials indicated they’d evaluate the project’s operational and financial feasibility moving forward.

Local reports suggest that this subway system aims to alleviate traffic along International Drive by connecting existing theme parks and CityWalk to the recently opened Epic Universe.

Moreover, the board’s decision follows months of speculation and a competitive bidding process, which involved other proposals, including one from the company Glideways.

While some competitors presented elevated track systems aimed at reducing construction time, the decision ultimately favored an underground solution, reminiscent of The Boring Company’s “Vegas Loop” in Nevada.

“It’s another opportunity to reduce traffic load, and I think it’s beneficial for tourists,” shared resident Scott Heinz. Another local, Mary Walters-Clarke, mentioned that this move could help ease rush hour congestion, letting visitors manage their time more effectively.
