Actress Molly Ringwald threw the shade at John Hughes Classic Breakfast Club The film’s 40th anniversary is called “very white” of today’s world.
Starring at the 40th anniversary reunion of her world-famous film, Ringwald and all the original cast members attended for the first time in 40 years at the C2E2 Pop Culture Convention in Chicago last Saturday. The mood was generally nostalgic, but Ringwald injected some modern politics into the mix.
“I personally don’t believe in remaking that film because I think it’s a huge amount of time,” Ringwald said.
“Today I resonate with people,” she continued. “I believe in building it and creating a film that represents what’s happening today, although it’s inspired by other films. This is very white, this film is very white. You don’t see many different ethnicities. We don’t talk about gender.
Ringwald concluded that she wanted more “inspired films.” The “Breakfast Club” is going in a different direction. ”
Other cast members agreed that the film should not be remade, but the focus on the film’s characters made them find it difficult to find its way in modern Hollywood.
“Today’s films are concept-driven and not character-driven. John’s beauty is that he first focused on the characters,” said actor Emilio Estevez. “And considering trying to sell this movie today, it’s five kids sitting in the library, being detained all day. And the studio executives march you right away, saying, “Where are the monsters? Where are the car chase? Where’s the big effect?”
“It’s also important to remember that we made this film for $1 million. It was still a lot of money back then, but it wasn’t a universal standard. It wasn’t considered a huge tent pole film like today,” Estevez continued. “So, there was a lot of risk involved, but by today’s standards, you wouldn’t think this film would ever be made.”
As Breitbart News has introduced in the past, Ringwald was critical of her work in films such as: Breakfast club. John Norte previously brought back some of her arguments. He wrote:
The overall point of the movie Under these unpleasant archetypes, there are people, people worth knowing, and perhaps you can approach.
For example, we learn deep inside and that Claire is not a prissy, tense snob. She’s just acting like her friends and parents expect her to act.
Ringwald has also criticised several situations 16 candles.
“At the time I vaguely realized how inappropriate a lot of John’s writing was. I was thinking about my limited experience and what was considered normal at the time. I was in my 30s and stopped thinking about verbal abusive men being more interesting than nice people,” she said.
