Details surrounding the tragic double murder of “American Idol” executive Robin Kay and her husband have come to light over a month after they were discovered shot at their Los Angeles home.
Both Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, as indicated by their death certificates. Reports mention that Deluca died almost immediately from his injuries, but Kay experienced a few minutes of suffering before passing away.
While they were killed on July 10, the couple’s death certificates list the official time of death as when LAPD found their bodies on July 14, according to the Los Angeles County Clinic.
Initially, Kay’s death certificate from July 23 stated that no autopsy had been performed on her, which was later revised on August 4. Both victims were cremated on July 23.
The award-winning music director had returned home from grocery shopping when the crime occurred. The suspect, Raymond Boudarian, known for drug use and having a history of mental health issues and prior arrests, allegedly committed the murders using the couple’s own firearms.
The suspect gained entry through an unlocked front door, and it was reported that no alarms were triggered. A neighbor saw someone climbing over the couple’s fence around 4 PM the day of the murder and alerted the police. However, when the officers arrived, they didn’t seem to take action, even calling in a helicopter for a better view.
By the time the police checked the exterior, the couple had tragically already been killed inside their $4.5 million home.
Authorities confirmed, “The victim succumbed to multiple bullet injuries and the suspect escaped from the residence on foot.”
Four days later, during welfare checks, officers found the couple’s bodies. Boudarian was arrested the next day and charged with two counts of murder, with fingerprints from a previous arrest linking him to the scene.
Boudarian is set to appear in court in Los Angeles on August 20, 2025. However, the proceedings were cut short when he declined to respond to the judge. He is currently being held without bail and has a hearing in Mental Health Court scheduled for September 3.
Interestingly, court records show that Boudarian has been arrested multiple times for various offenses, ranging from battery to threats involving weapons, with at least two of those arrests resulting in his release on the same day.
Kay had been with “American Idol” for over 15 years and earned several Guild of Music Supervisor Awards during her career.
