Mike Woodson's tenure in Indiana hasn't been very good, but when he leaves the program at the end of the season, he has at least one thing in common with former Hoosiers head coach Bob Knight. Woodson is set to use the same chair The Knight was thrown infamously for the loss of a house to Purdue 40 years ago.
Woodson found a chair, According to the Indianapolis star, and used it during Sunday's match against Purdue for 40 years from the day after the Knight's toss.
At the time, Knight received a technical foul to discuss with the judge about how he thought the famous militant Knight was called to his team too many.
So when Purdue's Steve Reed went to the line for a free throw on another Hoosier foul, Knight grabbed a chair and tore it off the bench before throwing it onto the court.
He was kicked out and eventually revealed the case of David Letterman. The woman in attendance said she reminded him of her grandmother.
“I said, 'Did you want something from me?” Knight joked. “And she said, 'If you're not sitting today as much as you have been, can I have your chair?” ”
Since then, the location of the chairs has remained a mystery.
It was unclear that Woodson, who played for Indiana and previously coached the Knicks, had gotten a chair.
Under Woodson, Indiana was eliminated in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament and the second round of 2023.
The Hoosiers took part in Sunday's 15-11 with a 6-9 Big Ten record that failed to qualify for the tournament last year and lost eight of their previous 10 games.
