Chelsea Championship Relocates to Houston’s Memorial Park

Chevron USA Inc. and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour have announced that the Chevron Championship will be moving to Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. This change is significant as it brings the LPGA Tour’s first major of the season closer to Chevron’s new headquarters and the vibrant downtown area.

The golf course, redesigned by architect Tom Doak, offers top-notch facilities and a welcoming environment for both players and spectators. It aims to uphold the success of the LPGA’s inaugural major of the year, a highly esteemed event in women’s golf.

“Relocating the Chevron Championship to Memorial Park Golf Course shows our dedication to promoting women’s golf and strengthening our ties to Houston,” stated Laura Lane, CEO of Chevron. “Houston holds a special place in Chevron’s history, and partnering with Memorial Park allows us to celebrate that legacy while furthering our commitment to women’s golf and community involvement.”

The course’s location near downtown Houston and Chevron’s headquarters will enhance accessibility for fans, community partners, and employees, making it easier to attend tournaments and engage in various community initiatives. Memorial Park also houses the Chevron Educational Golf Center, where local youth can explore STEM concepts through the sport of golf.

LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler remarked, “Our collaboration with Chevron sets a benchmark for investing in women’s golf—not just as a championship but as a way to inspire and expand interest in the game. Bringing the Chevron Championship to Memorial Park aligns with that vision. It connects our athletes with more fans and solidifies this major’s status as a key fixture in the game since 1972.”

Houston Mayor John Whitmire expressed pride in the partnership, noting, “Deepening our collaboration with Chevron by hosting the Chevron Championship at Memorial Park celebrates our shared sports heritage and points toward a bright future for our city. This event enhances Houston’s status as a premier sports destination and inspires the next generation through golf.”

Jim Crane, Chairman of the Astros Golf Foundation, added, “Holding the LPGA’s first major of the year at Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course emphasizes our commitment to the greater Houston community and delivering an exceptional experience for fans and players alike. The Astros Golf Foundation is excited to partner with Chevron and the LPGA to elevate this tournament and allow more Houstonians to engage with a world-class event in the city. This will showcase the incredible talent within the LPGA and support the growth of women’s golf, which we wholeheartedly back.”
