The popular faith-based series has now earned a new title as a Guinness World Record holder.
I Was Chosen holds the record for “The Most Translated Season of a Streaming Series.” It’s rare for a title like this to be quickly surpassed.
Season 1 of the series has been translated into 58 languages, allowing viewers to experience it in their native tongues. Additionally, closed captions in 86 languages will also be available. The Come and See Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting the series’ worldwide distribution, aims to have it translated into 600 languages.
Representatives from Guinness World Records presented a framed certificate to acknowledge this achievement, highlighting the way storytelling can transcend borders, cultures, and languages. This moment was shared during a live stream on the series’ official social media accounts.
Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director of I Was Chosen, mentioned that this record underscores the significance of the gospel and the hard work of the translation team. Around 200 people globally are involved in translating the series into different languages, and some of them face risks due to the Bible’s themes.
“In some countries, the act of translation for The Chosen can be life-threatening,” he explained.
Rick Dempsey, who is the senior vice president of creative and global localization at Come and See, commented on their approach to dubbing. Dempsey, a former Disney executive with a background in major animated film translations, noted that they aim for authenticity.
“It’s crucial for us to ensure the dialogues match the characters,” Dempsey remarked. “We follow stringent practices for I Was Chosen to maintain that integrity.”
Currently, Season 5 of I Was Chosen is streaming free on the official series app.
During the recent live stream, Jenkins also revealed that the next Tusencon, a fan convention, is set for February 19-21, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
