The Cure keyboardist Roger O’Donnell reveals diagnosis of ‘very rare and aggressive’ cancer

The Cure keyboardist Roger O'Donnell announced last year that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

The 68-year-old musician shared the details on social media.

“Last September I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. After ignoring the symptoms for months I finally had a scan and after surgery the biopsy results were devastating,” O'Donnell wrote.

He went on to say that he had completed 11 months of treatment “under the best specialists in the world,” including immunotherapy and radiation therapy.

“Cancer can be beaten but the chances are much better if it's diagnosed early. So what I would say is go get tested, if you even think you might have symptoms, get tested,” he encouraged, beginning the post with the fact that September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

O'Donnell added, “Finally, if you know anyone who is sick or suffering, please talk to them. Every word helps. Trust me, I do. I also want to thank my doctors, all of them rock stars, the nurses and technicians, my friends, family and my partner, Mimi. It's tough sometimes being on the other side of this…”

The lengthy caption was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of O'Donnell and his partner Mimi.

According to Mayo Clinic, Lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, “part of the body's immune system that fights bacteria and disease.” Symptoms include fever, night sweats, fatigue, itchy skin, painless swollen lymph nodes, and weight loss. Treatments vary, but often involve chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy, the last two of which O'Donnell mentioned.

He also shared a second post of a black and white photo, showing off his shorter hair and writing, “I didn't choose this hairstyle hahaha,” before crediting the photo to Mimi.
