Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that a date has been set for an Israeli military operation to attack and annihilate the last remaining Hamas battalion in the city of Rafah, near the Gaza-Egypt border.
Prime Minister Netanyahu gave a speech during a visit to Israeli negotiators in Cairo, Egypt, and said that he had reached an agreement with Hamas through intermediaries from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, and that the remaining 133 Israeli hostages (including those who had died) would be saved. It was hoped that some of them would be released.
In a statement posted online and translated and published by the Israeli Government Press Office, Prime Minister Netanyahu said:
“Today I received a detailed report on the talks in Cairo. We are working relentlessly to achieve the goal of first and foremost the release of all hostages and the achievement of a complete victory over Hamas.” . “This victory requires entering Rafah and eliminating the terrorist battalion located there. This will happen. There will also be a date.”

The Biden administration opposes Israel’s invasion of Rafah and says there are other ways to achieve its goal of annihilating Hamas, but the US has not said what those other ways are.State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller Said The United States said it had not been informed of the date of Israel’s planned operation.
There were conflicting reports from Cairo on the progress of negotiations, with some observers saying progress had been made. Some say Hamas is rejecting the deal. Some say many of the hostages may already be dead.
