The democratic party has just taken an election away from itself.

Political Turmoil: Hogg’s Short Stint as DNC VP

Who would have thought this would happen?

Just 101 days into his role as the youngest vice-president of the Democratic National Committee—and notably the first member of Generation Z in such a position—David Hogg finds himself amidst a scandal. Allegations like “election fraud” have been swiftly dismissed by party elites, painting a rather embarrassing picture for the Democrats. When compared to the effectiveness of President Trump’s initial 100 days, this incident feels particularly inadequate. If the Republicans play their cards right, they could really capitalize on the confusion leading up to the mid-2026 elections.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? Once upon a time, Democrats prided themselves on the integrity of the electoral process. And yet, here we are.

The complaints focus on a shattered parliamentary system that seems to cater more to cunning players and authoritative figures than to preserving democratic values. Hogg, elected to help the party reconnect with young male voters, mentioned, “The DNC has pledged to eliminate me, and this vote laid bare that intention.” He believes that top party members are clinging desperately to an outdated status quo.

This revelation came shortly after Hogg voiced concerns about the party’s direction, stating that many young men feel like they must tiptoe around sensitive subjects for fear of judgment or exclusion. Isn’t that kind of telling about the party’s climate?

So, will conservatives take advantage of this chaos?

For years, Democrats reassured American voters about electoral reliability. They have insisted that it’s possible to shield democracy from right-wing influences. However, this recent episode seems to contradict those assertions.

I mean, doesn’t it? Democrats have a history of manipulating their internal election processes. Just look back at the superdelegates during the 2016 and 2020 elections. Bernie Sanders certainly remembers how those arrangements favored the wealthy elite, as he was often undermined by ambiguous rules.

Interestingly, House Democrats still refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of Republican victories going back to 1988, questioning election results even from their own party’s questionable elections.

Recent attempts by the left aimed to safeguard democracy, yet they often translate into efforts to create a singular party narrative, something blatantly visible in reactions following Trump’s popular vote win. Where’s the consistency there?

And let’s not gloss over the Democratic push to alter the Electoral College through a “national popular vote” plan, which could theoretically award all electoral votes to a candidate who wins the nationwide popular vote. Imagine how that would have played out in 2016!

Surprisingly, enthusiasm for this idea has dwindled dramatically since November 2024, particularly from Michigan Democrats who have since ditched their national popular vote legislation shortly after Trump’s victory. Curious timing, right?

At the core of this issue lies a party guided by a small group of Washington insiders and lobbyists. Notably, Kamala Harris has never truly held significant electoral support, not even in California.

Funding from major corporate donors helped Harris rise; she is often seen as the product of a partisan machine, seamlessly moving upward without much merit. However, it was during her interactions with genuine, everyday Americans in states like Nevada and Pennsylvania that her shortcomings became painfully obvious.

Now, Hogg, amidst all the turmoil, has called out the party’s toxic adherence to extreme ideologies, suggesting that democratic processes are being stifled within the party.

He’s slated to be replaced soon by a candidate who will, presumably, uphold strict party lines without question. For Republicans, this offers a golden opportunity, but the window to exploit this rift is closing fast.

If this is how the Democrats treat internal democracy, how would they address real issues affecting the electorate?
