The Department of Justice defended the Hur report on Biden to the White House

The Justice Department defended Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on President Biden as “consistent with legal requirements and Department policy” after the White House sent a scathing letter to the Justice Department.

In a letter obtained by Fox News, Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer defended the Hur report and its public release as “consistent” with Justice Department policy and its legal requirements.

“After careful consideration of your claims, the Department has concluded that the report submitted to the Attorney General and its announcement are consistent with legal requirements and Department policy,” White House Counsel Ed Siskel and the individual said. The letter sent to advisers said Joe Biden’s Bob Bauer.

Weinsheimer said the uproar over the publication of Xu’s report on presidential memory was neither “unjust” nor “unduly prejudicial.”

“The language identified is not unfair or unfairly prejudicial, as it was not provided for the purpose of criticizing or denigrating the President,” the letter said. “Rather, it is provided to explain Special Counsel Heo’s conclusions regarding the president’s mental state in the possession and retention of classified information.”

The deputy attorney general also pushed back against the White House’s claim that the report “inappropriately commented” on Biden’s actions using classified documents.

“Your contention that Special Counsel Herr made inappropriate statements about non-prosecution is misplaced,” Weinsheimer wrote. “First, as noted above, Special Prosecutor Heo was applying the evidence he had collected to applicable law rather than commenting on non-prosecution.”

“Special Counsel Huh’s report provides important details on the basis of the president’s decision to resign, including whether he knew he was in possession of classified information; “contains elements that support his determination of whether the President acted knowingly in possessing and preserving classified information.”

“The language you’re objecting to is directly related to these issues,” Weinsheimer said.

Since Huh’s report was released last Thursday, the White House has pushed back against findings that characterized Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory.”

Mr. Biden was also vocal about the report’s findings, slamming him saying, “I don’t remember when my son Beau died, even if it was within a few years.”

“How dare you bring that up,” Biden exclaimed at a news conference Tuesday. “Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself, that’s none of their business.”

Two sources later clarified to Fox News that it was Biden, not Herr, who brought up his son’s death in 2015.

“We conclude that criminal charges are not warranted in this matter,” the report released Thursday said. “parable Ministry of Justice The policy did not prohibit criminal charges against a sitting president. ”
