The disturbing notes accused Gilgo killer Rex Heuermann kept about alleged murders

Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heurman kept a sickening “playbook” outlining his brutal murder plans, including a chilling “Things to remember” section and even a somber “Lessons learned” section, authorities said.

Suffolk County prosecutors said Thursday that the computer “allocation” files Heuerman allegedly tried to delete contained a gruesome road map for the brutal murders of six prostitutes since 1993, including the beheading and dismemberment of two new victims who were linked to the hulking Long Island father.

In one disturbing note, prosecutors said, Heuerman suggested he planned to continue his killing spree.

“Members of the Gilgo Homicide Task Force believe these ‘next time’ references are indicative of Heurman’s past experience and what changes should be implemented going forward,” the district attorney’s filing states.

The revelation came shortly after the District Attorney’s Office handed down new charges against Heuerman in the 1993 murders of Sandra Costilla and Jessica Taylor and the 2003 dismemberment of their bodies. This is in addition to the outstanding felony charges Heuerman already faces in the murders of the women known as the “Gilgo Four.”

According to a bail application filed by prosecutors on Thursday, Heuerman had kept a secret digital recording titled “HK2002-2004” on his computer since at least 2000 that contained precise notes about the murders.

The digital documents are divided into specific sections, such as “Problems,” “Supplies” and “TGR,” which prosecutors say are potential targets, and “DS” stands for “waste dump.”

According to court documents from the Suffolk District Attorney, the damning guide tells potential victims “the smaller the better” and includes a three-part section on “pre-preparation,” “preparation” and “after the fact.”

“The Hong Kong planning document further details preparatory measures, including specific ‘reconnaissance’ measures,” the document also states, including “packaging.” [a body] “It’s for transportation,” the prosecutor said.

One section read, “Cut off head and hands,” and the district attorney’s office said it matched Taylor’s body and that of another Gilgo family member, Valerie Mack, who has not been officially linked to Heuerman.

It also includes a section advising suspects to “clean their identification marks.” [tatoos] [sic]It matches the remains of Ms Taylor and showed “linear wounds”, particularly “around the areas where Ms Taylor’s tattoos were located”, which investigators believe were intended to hinder identification of the victim.

Finally, Heuerman allegedly kept a section for “Things to Remember,” which included things like “hit harder” for “next time” and “a lighter rope is better.” [stress of being tightened]. “

“Hit him so hard that it would take too many blows to knock him down,” the plan said, according to prosecutors.

“Next time, consider striking the face or neck for a takedown.”

Additionally, prosecutors said Heurman opined that sleep was important to avoid “problems” and have more so-called “play time.”

The section also contained notes such as “push pins to hang fabric from the ceiling” and “not tape” as well as a note that “sound travels,” indicating a preference for committing crimes indoors, the district attorney said.

According to prosecutors, the HK files “demonstrate Heurman’s self-education and ‘homework.'”

Heurman, a 60-year-old architect from Massapequa Park with offices in Midtown Manhattan, is accused of murdering six sex workers over the past 30 years.

The murders of the victims – Taylor, 20, Megan Waterman, 22, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Maureen Brainerd Barnes, 25, Amber Lynn Costello, 27, and Costilla, 28 – remained unsolved for decades until the murders were reopened in 2022 and Heuerman was arrested in July.

Costilla, who disappeared in 1993, has not previously been linked to six other bodies found along Ocean Parkway, but it remains an unsolved case there.

Costilla was initially thought to have ties to convicted serial killer John Bittrolff, but her DNA did not match him, according to documents filed Thursday by prosecutors.
