The Donald Trump Show is taking the focus away from Ukraine.

Where Did Ukraine Go in the Headlines?

As we celebrate Labor Day, it feels like summer 2025 has slipped away, leaving only occasional reports about Ukraine, which seem to have faded from the news. In the background, a grave situation continues as Russian assaults on Ukrainian civilians have reportedly escalated.

Not too long ago, a chaotic event in Alaska made global news, capturing wide attention.

There was much buzz around President Vladimir Putin’s lunch choice of Chicken Kyiv during a flight with President Trump. It was quite the spectacle, seeing Trump aboard with a big smile, walking the red carpet.

The following Monday brought even more action as European leaders rushed to Washington, aiming to bring an end to the devastating three-and-a-half-year conflict sparked by Russia’s invasion of its neighbors.

During a break from his meetings, Trump appeared poised for negotiations with Putin. Peace looked somewhat hopeful, perhaps not unlike what Neville Chamberlain envisioned in his time, though many of us were unsure about that hope.

But then, things took a turn. Trump seems to have shifted focus, declaring it isn’t just about Ukraine anymore but targeting lawlessness in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, Texas Democrats returned home, allowing the state to redistribute House seats, which naturally tilted the scale in favor of the Republicans. They spoke loudly about redistricting, perhaps too confidently.

The head of the CDC has been in the news, facing scrutiny over vaccination disagreements. It appears further evaluations are on the horizon.

In the background, the president’s efforts to influence the Federal Reserve have echoed loudly alongside the drama between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

This has stirred up memories, even those of Elizabeth Taylor’s brief engagement decades ago.

Yet, amid all this chatter, Ukraine has seemingly vanished from discussions. There were once promises of substantial support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, akin to NATO’s Article 5, which now seem to have evaporated.

Putin’s assurances, along with the possibility of meetings with Ukraine’s President Voldymir Zelensky, seem to have disintegrated, dismissed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The bombings in Ukraine continue, including attacks on places like the British consulate in Kyiv—where’s the coverage on that?

As Congress prepares to return, the spotlight shifts to Jeffrey Epstein, raising questions about a client list, which, depending on its existence, could lead to a backlash for Trump among his supporters.

Meanwhile, the situation in Ukraine drags on. Can Europe deliver on its weapons promises, especially with U.S. ammunition stocks dwindling amidst growing Chinese military power?

As for NATO, will it truly commit to defending its members amid economic challenges that may loom?

Trump’s team appears ready for action in Chicago, but with tensions high, New York might not be far behind in the spotlight.

All these developments make for captivating headlines and soundbites on cable news. But truly, who’s paying attention to Ukraine?

No matter what your thoughts about Trump might be, his influence is undeniable, perhaps like none we’ve seen before. Although he started out in the limelight of reality TV, what’s unfolding feels like a never-ending show, with endless news cycles.

It’s no surprise to see Ukraine drifting away from our collective attention.
