Baltimore Ravens’ Frustrating Loss to Pittsburgh Steelers
Last Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens faced a disappointing 24-26 defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game ended dramatically with rookie kicker Tyler Loup missing a 44-yard field goal attempt just as time ran out. This unexpected outcome left fans feeling upset and analysts scratching their heads. The situation became even murkier when Ravens head coach John Harbaugh opted to have quarterback Lamar Jackson kneel instead of utilizing star running back Derrick Henry to potentially shorten the field goal distance.
In light of this puzzling choice and others from the game, sports commentator Jason Whitlock from BlazeTV couldn’t help but conclude, “John Harbaugh hates Derrick Henry.”
On an episode of “Fearless,” Whitlock, along with contributors Steve Kim and Jay Skapinac, delved into what they believed were underlying coaching issues reflected in Harbaugh’s decisions to sidelined Henry during key moments.
Whitlock expressed disbelief, stating, “Are you satisfied with a 44-yard field goal in the wind in Pittsburgh? … Are you kidding me?” He went on to question the wisdom of not using Henry, who is regarded as one of the best running backs in football, to gain the yards needed to assure a successful field goal attempt.
This doesn’t appear to be an isolated incident. Two weeks prior, during a game against the New England Patriots, Harbaugh kept Henry on the bench for the final two drives, even after Henry had performed impressively earlier in the game with a touchdown and over 128 rushing yards.
“It goes further,” Kim remarked, arguing that Henry deserved at least “10 more carries” in the Steelers matchup.
He continued by suggesting that quarterback Lamar Jackson seemed less effective than in previous seasons, indicating that, given Henry’s strong performance early on, he should have been relied on more throughout the game.
Skapinac echoed these sentiments, noting that Henry isn’t utilized enough and that Harbaugh’s coaching style seems to have grown stale. “It’s time to move on,” he said.
