The FDA Should Construct an Attractive Barrier

Concerns Over Chinese Drug Imports Highlighted at Policy Event

At a recent policy event hosted by Breitbart News, RX Border Defense Commissioner Raul López emphasized the urgency of creating stricter barriers to prevent low-quality medicines from China from entering the U.S. According to him, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) “needs to build a beautiful wall” for this purpose.

Several notable figures attended the event, including Sen. Jim Banks (R-Indiana) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), alongside former officials like Chad Wolf and Jeff Gerrish. The discussion revolved around the various risks associated with China and the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

López, originally from Havana, Cuba, knows firsthand the dangers of communism, having immigrated to the U.S. at just five years old to escape the Castro regime. During a panel led by Breitbart’s Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle, he and healthcare advocate Patsy Reitman discussed China’s significant grip on medications essential to Americans.

“Antibiotics are under 90 percent control,” Reitman pointed out. “For painkillers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen, it’s between 70 to 95 percent. Steroids, cardiovascular drugs, and even sterile products are affected, and contaminants have been found in these.” This alarming information came shortly after two Chinese pharmaceutical companies and six individuals were charged for smuggling fentanyl precursors into the U.S.

Reitman expressed serious doubts regarding the FDA’s capability to evaluate drugs that come from China, stating, “The FDA maintains high standards for American companies, but those standards don’t seem to apply to what’s brought in from abroad.”

López remarked that China’s control over U.S. drug supplies isn’t accidental but a strategy part of its larger geopolitical ambitions. When asked if the CCP harbored aspirations for “world domination,” he responded, “It’s more than that; they aim to go even further.”

“Their philosophy is essentially to conquer the world,” he explained.

Using his own experiences with communism, López articulated the threats posed by China’s pharmaceutical influence. “What regimes like China want is to make you dependent on them. They destroyed my family in Cuba, impacting every aspect of life,” he recounted. He highlighted how these regimes often aim to separate families to maintain control.

“They’re coming at us from every direction. They present themselves like Trojan horses, offering drugs at cheap prices, but the reality is that they could unleash devastation,” he cautioned.

López believes that the health and national security risks related to China’s dominance in drug manufacturing necessitate a serious reconsideration of U.S. policies. He suggested that Donald Trump could play a crucial role in addressing these challenges.

He expressed disbelief that the FDA would approve drugs from “communist countries” like China, asserting that such a practice crosses a significant line. “Trump has done an excellent job in building a wall for our country. Now, the FDA needs to do the same to ensure these dangerous drugs don’t make it into the U.S.,” López concluded.
