Colts Likely to Trade Players as Deadline Approaches
There’s increasing speculation that the Indianapolis Colts, currently sitting at 2-4, may be looking to trade some players before the deadline. Other NFL teams are reportedly interested in several of their athletes on both offense and defense.
At the center of many of these discussions is Johnathan Taylor. The All-Pro running back has become a focal point in various trade rumors.
Teams like the Packers, Seahawks, Broncos, and Vikings are among those considering a deal for Taylor, according to reports.
Back in August 2023, the Packers explored the possibility of trading for Taylor, with the Colts wanting young wide receiver Christian Watson along with extra compensation. Although that deal didn’t go through, the Packers may revisit it, hoping to bring him back to Wisconsin, where he previously excelled at the University of Wisconsin.
For Colts fans, the idea of trading Taylor is unsettling. After all, he signed a two-year, $44 million extension during training camp, expressing enthusiasm about it and even talking about the possibility of finishing his career in Indianapolis.
As it stands, the 27-year-old Taylor is owed the remainder of his nearly $7 million base salary for this season, along with $16 million next year and around $18 million in 2028.
This season, Taylor has been performing well, rushing for 492 yards and getting into the end zone seven times. He’s averaging four yards per carry, which is quite commendable given the struggles of the Colts’ offensive line.
After parting ways with general manager Chris Ballard, the Colts have signaled a potential overhaul, encouraging other teams to consider trade opportunities involving their players.
In addition to Taylor, other significant assets like defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and highly-regarded interior offensive lineman Quentin Nelson are also reportedly on the trading block.
