A glaring truth hidden in plain sight suddenly became common knowledge: Joe Biden is 81 years old and in decline.
Apparently it took a spectacular debate performance, George Clooney and Biden’s op-ed confusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Putin, and yesterday’s NATO summit where he referred to Donald Trump as his vice president, for us to believe it for ourselves.
I have long had concerns about whether the president is fit to run the country, but the debate in late June was worse than I expected. Of course, the 78-year-old opponent is not young, but it is no exaggeration to say that the contrast between the two candidates was as clear as night and day.
But what was most striking to me was how many people were surprised by the president’s performance, as if they were only just now realizing that he isn’t as sharp as he once was.
I have many friends on the left, and I was astounded that so many of my smart, inquisitive, and informed peers failed to see Biden’s missteps. Where were they — burying their heads in the sand?
Since that debate, Overton’s position has shifted. Suddenly, it’s safe to point out that a very old, stumbling man is in charge of our country.
Several New York Times editorials Calling on Joe Biden Resign. Democratic Rep. requested the sameEven George Clooney, a longtime Biden donor and supporter, I begged the president He announced his resignation in an op-ed Wednesday.
I appreciate that they’re finally telling things as they are, but this spontaneous narrative shift is tiresome.
Many of us have been reporting the facts for years, including reporters at this newspaper who have been calling out Biden’s gaffes for years, but rather than raising serious concerns about his fitness to run, many on the left have dismissed us.
Naysayers claimed we were engaging in a right-wing smear campaign: Unflattering footage of Biden was dismissed as politically motivated, taken out of context, secretly edited, or simply in poor taste.
It’s not malicious to demand that a president be mentally capable of leading the free world. Just because an outlet you don’t like points something out doesn’t mean it’s not true.
Conservatives have expressed concern about the president’s aging since the last election campaign in 2020.
At that time He argued “Poor kids are just as smart as white kids, and just as talented,” he said, before inexplicably calling young female voters “lying dog-faced pony soldiers” and calling a retired Iowa farmer who questioned his running fitness a “fat bastard” and a “damn liar.”
His presidency was also riddled with missteps.
In March 2022, early in the Ukraine war, he flippantly said Putin “cannot stay in power” — a clear call for unauthorized regime change that was quickly retracted by panicked staff.
In September 2022, he looked for “Congresswoman Jackie” in the crowd while speaking, apparently forgetting her last name and the fact that she had died a month prior.
And in June 2023, he inexplicably touted a plan to build a railway from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean.
Throughout his term, Biden has read commands such as “end quote,” “repeat line” and “pause” from a teleprompter during speeches.
When he was Asked about mental focus His response to “60 Minutes” in 2022 inspired just a modicum of confidence: “Yeah, that’s spot on. I would say, I mean, I still have a hard time even getting it out of my head about how old I am. I don’t think I’m old enough to fly.”
The list goes on. After his debate disaster, his redemption attempt ended in yet another gaffe.
“Like I said, I’m proud to be the first vice president and the first black woman to serve with a black president,” he told WURD radio station on July 4.
And during a campaign speech, he confidently asserted: “I’m running for office. I’m going to defeat Donald Trump. And I’m going to defeat him again in 2020.”
This is sad. It’s inspiring. I don’t want to live in a country run by a mentally debilitated president or his unelected cronies.
Biden’s health situation can no longer be ignored, but a combination of willful ignorance and gaslighting by the mainstream media has allowed many Americans to miss what has been looming before their eyes for months, even years.
This is not only a vindication for those of us who have sounded the alarm, but also a reminder to those who feel caught off guard to evaluate the evidence, think for themselves, and believe their own eyes.
