The Government Takes a Lot of Money. Where Does It Go?

Bill Maher Questions Government Tax Use

HBO host Bill Maher expressed concerns about the government’s heavy tax collection, questioning its effectiveness. During an appearance on Anna Kasparian’s podcast, he specifically discussed California’s taxes.

“I just can’t wrap my head around why they take so much of my money,” Maher admitted. Kasparian joined in, urging him to dive deeper into the tax debate.

Maher reflected, “I can’t recall a time last year when I didn’t pay over half of my income in taxes. The government is definitely taking a lot. But where does it all go? Why are there still homeless individuals? And why hasn’t California built any new railroads yet?”

The conversation shifted to a more provocative topic when Islamic extremism was mentioned. Maher asked Kasparian, “If you had to live in any city in the Middle East, would you feel comfortable wearing that dress?”

Kasparian responded cautiously, suggesting she wouldn’t feel safe in many destabilized Middle Eastern countries, but Maher interjected, “Really? You’re not blaming White people for that, are you? Are you suggesting that Islam is at fault because of them?”

She quickly countered, “I’m not blaming Islam for that.” To which Maher responded, “But are you saying that’s the reason we’d feel insecure? Is that why we can’t wear that dress?”

Later in the discussion, Maher touched on his approach to engaging with Trump supporters and noted that it may strain his relationship with popular late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel. “I’m on the side of talking to them within the Democratic Party. I’m not excluding your people,” he remarked, indicating that some friends, including Kimmel, were upset with his views. He recalled a letter from Kimmel’s wife, expressing her concerns about voting for Trump.
