Fox Cancels Great North

It’s official: Fox has decided to cancel Great North.

The network confirmed that the animated comedy will not return for its sixth season, wrapping up just two weeks after the conclusion of Season 5. The Molyneux sisters—who are veterans from Bob’s Burgers—along with Lauren Bouchard, have been part of Fox’s Sunday night animation lineup since 2021.

“It’s tough to say goodbye, but I’m grateful for the five hilarious seasons that Great North has contributed to our iconic animation lineup,” said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network.

This cancellation also signifies the end of Fox’s 2025 “Bubble” shows, which included titles like Rescue Hi-Surf, Defendant, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and Cleaning Woman. While Defendant may have a chance for a potential return, the rest are officially done.

As for Rescue Hi-Surf, it got its ax back in May. The fate of Alerts, Cleaning Woman, and Great North hung in the balance until after the recent season wrapped up. Both Alerts and Cleaning Woman were officially canceled in June.

For fans of Great North, the cancellation was somewhat expected. The writing seemed to be on the wall when the show was left out of Fox’s April Megadeal with 20th TV Animation, which featured other hits like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad!.

With American Dad! returning and new series like Crapopolis and Grimsburg joining the mix, it was clear that the network’s animation slate was quite full. Unfortunately, something had to give, and that something turned out to be Great North.

The show, created by the Molyneux sisters and alum Mint Lewis from Regular Show, follows the quirky Tobin family living in Alaska. Single dad Beef, voiced by Nick Offerman, navigated life with his endearing but eccentric crew, including his daughter Judy (Jenny Slate).

The family includes characters like the Wolf (Will Forte) and his wife Honeybee, Middle Brotherham (Paul Rust), and the philosophical ten-year-old Moon. Judy’s mother is absent, but she finds support from her boss, Allison (Megan Mullally), and her angelic best friend, Alanis Morissette.

Even though it might not have received widespread attention, Great North cultivated a dedicated fanbase and became one of Fox’s success stories alongside Bob’s Burgers. After five seasons of Northern charm and family quirks, it earned its place in the Animation Hall of Fame.
