Concerns Over H-1B Visa Program
The H-1B visa program is often described as a solution to skill shortages in the job market. However, some argue it has become an avenue for exploiting the immigration system.
Blaze TV host Sarah Gonzalez expressed the need for stricter control, stating, “We have to think about how to stop it from being taken advantage of.” She believes immigration, particularly the H-1B program, should be temporarily halted to reclaim what she sees as lost opportunities for Americans.
Gonzalez emphasizes, “They’re taking American jobs and changing our communities.” She asserts that the main issue lies with the H-1B visa system itself.
Though they may not seem as urgent as illegal immigration, H-1B visas present a significant problem. Gonzalez pointed out that “hundreds of thousands, if not millions,” are currently in the U.S. under this visa scheme, raising concerns about who is allowed to enter the country.
“The reality is that many are coming in on H-1B visas, displacing American workers and taking salaries that often don’t benefit the local economy,” she explained, noting that a considerable portion of their earnings is sent back home in remittances.
This outflow of money has implications for the American housing market, driving up prices and squeezing out local residents, especially in states like Texas, which has been a leading state for H-1B visa approvals.
When examining specific Texas cities, Gonzalez highlighted the situation is even worse than many realize. She cited cases where taxpayer money is being used to fund H-1B positions that many qualified Texans could fill.
For instance, she referenced job postings for middle school math teachers at an annual salary of $62,000, and high school science teachers earning $70,000—positions that should be accessible to local candidates.
“Any qualified American would be eligible for these jobs,” she said. “But they took them away.”
