‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Cast & Crew Promise an ‘Incredible and Fulfilling’ Series Finale: “A Bold Revolution Unleashed!”

As Hulu’s dystopian series Handmaid’s Tale nears its conclusion, Elizabeth Moss reflects on her role as June Osborne with immense admiration.

“I hope she inspires bravery in anyone who needs it, whether in our nation or elsewhere,” Moss told Variety regarding June’s transformative journey. “She’s a character people can hopefully respect. Her bravery is something I truly admire.”

The highly anticipated final season debuts on April 8th, vowing an action-driven climax as the long-simmering rebellion in Gilead begins to flare.

“Things get somewhat chaotic toward the end. I think our fans have been awaiting this for six seasons. They were anticipating a revolution,” shares Madeline Brewer. “It was a prolonged buildup with so many developments, and ultimately, it resulted in an explosive revolution.”

Moss, Brewer, and the rest of the cast and crew convened to celebrate the series’ culmination at a special event at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The setting was adapted to reflect the signature red cloak and white bonnet associated with Gilead. On the red carpet, the writers highlighted their commitment to delivering a satisfying finale for their devoted audience.

“I recognized that this was our cherished cast and beloved characters, which is something I wouldn’t take lightly,” stated executive producer Yahlin Chang. “This season is about fulfilling wishes, and we truly aim to make it rewarding and uplifting.”

Max Minghella hinted at the unexpected twists in the forthcoming episodes. “I believe it will astonish the audience,” he noted.

The cast was primarily kept unaware of the plot’s resolutions, with many scripts undergoing extensive revisions.

“Honestly, we still don’t know if we truly grasp how the series will conclude,” said Samira Wiley. “I mean, every script went through so many edits. Characters had different names. All I can say is that fans will definitely feel rewarded for their loyalty.”

Carradine shared similar sentiments about the script, stating, “I never asked for an unedited version since I haven’t seen the final 15 pages of the script. This is the first time I’ve watched the show completely unaware.”

Reflecting on their characters, the cast discussed how their roles impacted their personal lives. “I’m more open to discussing topics I previously wouldn’t have after embodying Moira now,” Wiley remarked, highlighting her commitment to her character’s advocacy.

Ott Farben, portraying June’s husband Luke, contemplates how his character sheds light on the challenges civilians endure during politically turbulent times.

“He represented the everyday person, and countless civilians worldwide today are becoming refugees and losing their homes due to war and displacement,” explained Farben. “In this concluding season, we observe individuals willing to sacrifice everything to achieve their desires.”

Chang also mentioned that the writers are thoughtfully considering leaving room for potential sequel series. Will. While she and co-showrunner Eric Takuman aren’t part of the new project, Chan noted, “After experiencing these 10 episodes, you might be curious or concerned about whether there’s a sequel to address the loose threads and unresolved narratives.”

Moss, who is also an executive producer and has directed several episodes including the finale, expressed her appreciation for the journey.

“Collaborating with these actors has been an immense privilege in my life and my directing career,” she remarked.
