High Stakes in Jaylen Brown’s Trade Rumors

Jaylen Brown’s potential trade could come with significant financial implications.

During a recent segment on ESPN’s “The Get Up,” NBA insider Shams Charania indicated that the Celtics are likely to ask for multiple first-round picks for Brown, who is once again a hot topic in trade discussions.

“From what I gather, the Celtics might be looking for at least four first-round picks for Jaylen Brown,” Charania explained. “This is a Boston team vying for a top spot in the Eastern Conference, and their demands may include a mix of draft picks and player packages.”

He added, “It raises questions about how they view their roster moving forward—what’s their financial strategy? They’re in a competitive conference, and it’s still unclear which teams might engage with this situation as the offseason unfolds.”

Recently, the Heat managed to secure Giannis Antetokounmpo in a trade, allegedly after the Celtics made a strong play for him, reportedly offering Brown along with several first-round draft picks.

Amid these swirling rumors, Celtics general manager Brad Stevens opted not to speculate on Brown’s future. “I can’t predict the future,” he said.

Stevens clarified, “We try to keep everything under wraps, but, you know, we understand that rumors will circulate. That’s why we attempt to communicate as openly as possible with everyone,” addressing inquiries about Brown.

On a related note, Antetokounmpo’s trade involved a deal that included Tyler Herro and three first-round selections. Yet deals requiring four or more first-round picks are still occurring, similar to the Knicks’ transaction for Mikal Bridges, which included five future draft picks.

Although the Celtics met a disappointing end to their 2026 playoff run by losing 3-1 to the 76ers, Brown played a crucial role in their season, averaging a personal-best 28.7 points per game.

Taking center stage for the Celtics primarily during Jayson Tatum’s injury period, Brown regarded that season as “my favorite year of my basketball career.”

At 29 years old, Brown is still under contract for three more years in a five-year deal and has maintained an average of over 20 points per season since the 2019-20 season.
