The impact of Juan Soto was always unavoidable in this Subway Series.

The usual sounds of Yankee Stadium have been noticeably different lately, especially regarding some unwelcome guests. A group of Yankees fans aimed their chants at Juan Soto, expressing their disdain for the player who recently helped lead the team to its first World Series in 15 years.

While the enthusiasm of the crowd was admirable, the occasional offensive language seemed out of place and, frankly, unnecessary.

The Yankee fans who targeted Soto—although they were by no means the majority—clearly showed how significant his move to the Mets affected them. During the second half of the Yankees’ win, some fans voiced their frustration with chants like, “I want Grisham!” and “I want Soto!” This echoed sentiments from last summer when everything felt quite different.

If these chants were meant to convey a desire for the Mets to reconsider their hefty $765 million contract with Soto, it’s worth noting that he played a typical game, walking three times and matching Marcell Ozuna, who leads the MLB with 37 walks. Soto even stole a base and got himself into motion.
