For years, Blaze News investigative reporter Steve Baker has been detailing the January 6th trial of American citizens and exposing his findings, only to find that the government's ironclad remains against him. It was given down.
He has now pleaded guilty to four charges related to January 6th.
“My decision was very easy after last Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, which of course was the day after President Trump’s victory was confirmed. “I went through a brutal hearing that showed me that I had no choice,” Baker explained to Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson on “Blaze News Tonight.”
“They're not going to allow us to file our case, which I had imagined in my head for three years that if I was indicted, I would eventually file my case. “Then he was indicted again in March of this year and it took him nine or 10 months to file that case,” he continued, adding that the court rejected all of his claims. pointed out.
Baker said he was “acting completely and 100% professionally as a journalist” and that prosecutors were “violating the First Amendment.”
The court denied Baker the right to sue, so he decided to plead guilty instead.
“I told my lawyer on a Zoom call immediately after last Wednesday's hearing that I had no intention of doing anything like this. “To be frank, I had no intention of allowing the defendant to lose 100% of the case on January 6th,” he explains.
“There hasn't been a single acquittal or acquittal,” he added, referring to Judge Cooper's courtroom. “So if I were to go to court today, I would counter that topic,” he added.
Baker was just doing his job, but there were many other journalists in attendance on January 6th who did not face the same fate. And, having seen the same thing happen to others, he believes that no defendant was given a fair chance based on their political leanings.
“It started with the Oath Keepers trial, which of course was the biggest and most publicized of the trials on January 6th,” he says. But the government was basically allowed to offer whatever they wanted. ”
