‘The Instigators’ star Matt Damon shares difficulties with daughter leaving for college

Matt Damon is one step closer to becoming a married couple after raising children.

The 53-year-old actor and his wife, Luciana, 48, have four daughters. Their youngest, Isabella, has left home to go to college, which Damon calls a “big change.”

“We have a daughter who's 26, so we've been through this before, but it's still a big change for us and for her sisters,” he told E! News this week.

“We have one less member in our family and it's not the same family we had before, so it's a big change.”

Isabella, 18, attends New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Learning, according to an Instagram post from her high school.

When honoring each graduate in May, the school wrote, “Bella, your unique blend of observation, thoughtful writing and unwavering confidence has left an indelible mark on our community. Your teachers treasured the depth and creativity you brought to Word Flirt, and your peers were inspired by your fearless individuality. Your confident embrace of your identity serves as a beacon of inspiration to us all.”

“It feels like I was holding her yesterday, so as you get older, it's a surreal time and how that works in your life,” he explained.

Isabella and her sisters Alexia (26, Luciana's child from a previous relationship), Gia (16), Stella (13), and Luciana accompanied Damon to the New York premiere of his film The Instigators this summer, in a rare public appearance for the whole family.

In one photo, Damon is seen reaching out to hold his daughter Gia's hand as he is led off the carpet by his wife, as he looks back at his two older daughters, still partially in the shape of a photograph.

In 2023,Late Night with Seth MeyersDamon told the talk show host how Isabella loved to make fun of him.

“[She] “She loves to make things difficult for me, and she's made it very clear that if she thinks something I'm in is good, she doesn't want to see it,” he said. “If I get bad reviews for something… that's what she wants to see.”

Damon gave an amusing example, admitting that the 2016 film “The Great Wall” was “not very good.”

“My daughter was talking to one of her friends and she was talking about this movie. 'My dad did this movie, 'The Wall.'” She kept calling it 'The Wall.' And I finally said, 'Isabella, the name of the movie is…'The Great Wall. And she said, 'Dad, there's nothing great about that movie,'” he said.
