Iowans will brave record cold temperatures Monday to head to caucus sites around the Hawkeye State.
Iowa residents woke up Monday morning to minus 10 degrees. Factor in the cold winds and temperatures can plummet to -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Before 2024, the coldest caucus record in Des Moines, Iowa, was January 19th.thThe high temperature that day was 16 degrees Fahrenheit and the low temperature was 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, fast forward 20 years and the low temperature is -13 degrees Fahrenheit and the high temperature is -3 degrees Fahrenheit.
Exposure to subzero temperatures can cause frostbite within as little as 10 minutes of skin exposure, and prolonged exposure poses a potentially life-threatening risk.
45th President Donald Trump is the front-runner in Monday night's vote.
Iowans will begin caucusing at 7 p.m. CST.
