Every team has good draft classes and bad draft classes. There are times when a team unearths a diamond in the middle of the pack, times when a key player happens to come to the team, and times when they completely flop in the first round. Very occasionally, you can get a legendary class that lands multiple starters and a few Pro Bowlers, but while it's hard to do that well in the draft, it's just as amazing to find a way to completely screw up the process and get nothing.
2020 NFL Draft Jacksonville JaguarsIt was the worst incident in NFL history.
Before I get into how awful this class was, I want you to know that it simply sucks. collection This is the team that made the most draft picks a team has ever made. The Jaguars overcame that adversity. This team is doing well now, and the 2020 draft did not doom them. There are plenty of examples of draft picks that completely derailed a team's future, or trades that were so bad they set the team back years. This is not one of those stories, but rather a story of a team making 12 picks in one class and not finding a single good player among them.
1st round, 9th overall pick: CB CJ Henderson, Florida
Henderson spent one season with the Jaguars before the team realized he was lacking. In 2021, he Carolina Panthers In exchange for a fifth-round pick and tight end Dan Arnold (now out of the NFL).
WR Justin Jefferson, WR CeeDee Lamb
1st round, 20th overall pick: DE K'Lavon Chaisson LSU
The pick went to Jacksonville when the Rams acquired Jalen Ramsey in a trade. Henderson was meant to be Ramsey's successor, but Chaisson was drafted to bolster the pass rush. He ended up with five sacks in four seasons and left the team in free agency. He is not currently on an NFL roster.
RB Jonathan Taylor, ILB Patrick Queen
Round 2, No. 42 overall: WR Laviska Chennault Jr., Colorado
Shenault had a couple of decent seasons with the Jaguars before being traded to the Carolina Panthers. The problem was that his hands were callous and he was unreliable in Doug Pederson's offense. He's currently Seattle Seahawks.
It was possible…S Antoine Winfield Jr.
Round 3, No. 73: DT Davon Hamilton, Ohio State University
We found a guy who is still on the roster! Hamilton is not good. He had a chance as a starter in 2022 but was so bad he was taken out and made into a rotational lineman. At least the Jaguars still have him.
Round 4, No. 116: OG Ben Birch, St. John's
I tried tackle and it didn't work. I moved to guard and it didn't work. Now 49ers As a backup center.
Round 4, No. 137: CB Josiah Scott, Michigan
Scott played one season with the Jaguars before being released, signing with the Eagles and appearing in a handful of games, but is no longer signed with them.
Round 4, No. 140: LB Shaquill Quarterman, Miami
He never made much of an impact beyond being a rotational linebacker, was released by the Jaguars, signed with the Eagles, was released and is now a special teams player. Chargers.
Round 5, No. 157: S Daniel Thomas, Auburn
There is one other player still on the team, but he hasn't played in a game since 2021 and is a special teams player, so don't get too excited.
Round 5, No. 165: WR Collin Johnson, Texas
He was released after one season but is still active as a special teams player in the NFL. Chicago Bears.
Round 6, No. 189: QB Jake Luton Oregon
He played just one season, making three starts and recording two TDs and six interceptions.
Round 6, No. 206: TE Tyler Davis; Georgia Institute of Technology
After one season in Jacksonville, he was released. Green Bay Packers.
Round 7, No. 223: CB Chris Claybrooks, Memphis
He played in six games over three years, was indicted on two domestic violence charges in 2023, and is retired from the NFL.
What went wrong in this class?
Everything. The Jaguars had a terrible pre-draft process. They Ton He tried to reshape both sides of the ball with a pick but couldn't find one. Anyone.
Overall results for the Jaguars' 2020 NFL Draft class:
- 12 selections
- 0 Starter
- There are still two players left on the team.
Not only did the Jaguars miss out on the stars that were scattered throughout their 2020 class, they also failed to find a starter among their 12 draft picks. For comparison, the Carolina Panthers, who were also woefully inept in the same 2020 draft, three An NFL starter who has been selected just seven times.
To have all of these draft flops is a huge achievement and deserves the award for worst draft class of all time. Congratulations to the Jaguars.
