House Minority Leader Discusses New York Mayoral Candidate
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) addressed questions regarding the inclusion of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani (D) within the party.
Jeffries described Mamdani’s stance on affordable housing as “very provocative,” expressing his eagerness to delve into how Mamdani plans to put his ideas into action.
When host Ali Melber questioned Jeffries about Mamdani’s criticisms of the Israeli government, Jeffries noted that while he supports the broader platform, he feels Mamdani’s views may be more critical than those typically voiced by Congressional leaders, potentially heightening tensions.
Jeffries emphasized the Democratic Party’s inclusivity, stating that it welcomes a variety of perspectives, from those like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to more moderate voices such as Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME).
