Nala Smith, an influencer known for representing the ‘tradwife’ movement, has garnered attention online with her engaging content about homemade meals and her family life. However, in a recent discussion on “Call Her Daddy,” she clarified that she doesn’t view herself as a traditional housewife.
Host Allie Beth Stuckey, expressing skepticism, noted that Smith has appeared on platforms that contradict the values she seems to promote, seemingly rejecting the identities that have contributed to her success.
“When she claims, ‘No, I’m the boss,’ or questions her labeling, it’s quite ironic. That trend and category played a significant role in defining you, Nala Smith,” Stuckey remarked. “It feels disingenuous for you to degrade those labels, especially on a podcast focused on less serious topics.”
During her podcast appearance, Smith expressed her discomfort being identified with the tradwife movement, claiming it felt odd to her. “I’m a working mom first,” she stated, emphasizing her dual roles.
“Cooking is a passion for me but it’s also a necessity due to my autoimmune condition. Yet, I don’t see that as my only obligation,” she elaborated. She also clarified, “My husband and I share parenting responsibilities evenly; I’m not the sole caretaker.”
Smith further distanced herself from the traditional image of a tradwife, suggesting that such figures wouldn’t typically replicate high-fashion looks in everyday life. “I don’t think that’s what a tradwife does,” she added.
Stuckey criticized Smith’s comments as an attempt to manipulate public perception. “She’s likely aware of the trends she benefitted from, but now that critiques are coming to light, she’s backtracking,” Stuckey said. “It’s possible she didn’t intend for this to happen, but that’s the reality of her choices.”
