With time running out in the first half against Arizona, Jared Goff and the Lions faced a first-and-10 situation at the Cardinals' 21-yard line. Goff lined up in the shotgun with running back Jameel Gibbs standing to his left. The Lions were in a 2×2 formation.
After taking the snap, Goff looked to his right to see Amon-Ra St. Brown running a slant route with a defender pressing him. Goff threw a pass between the number 1 and number 4 on St. Brown's jersey, and the receiver caught the pass and quickly flipped backwards.

The play was a complete surprise for Arizona, as the running back broke off the defense's flow and accelerated down the field. He picked up a block from tight end Sam LaPorta near the goal line and ripped into the end zone for a seminal touchdown.
