The Market in former X headquarters closing this week

San Francisco is losing its high-end grocery store operating on the first floor of its former X headquarters.

X was known as Twitter when it was founded in 2006 until its owner Elon Musk changed its name in 2023, but was housed at 1355 Market Street before moving to Texas . The market's grocery division has been open for 10 years, but will close on Friday, according to a social media post.

Fox Business contacted Chris Foley, the owner of the market, but did not respond immediately.

Foley said San Francisco Chronicle That daily sales fell from $60,000 in 2019 to just $2,300 today. He said the store struggle has surpassed X's departure.

“Cities will make them take over meta addicts and homelessness during COVID, and essentially, during meta addicts and homelessness,” Foley held the city leaders accountable. London Breed, a former mayor of San Francisco, lost his re-elected bid for Mayor Daniel Lurie last year. Lurie's Office did not immediately respond to FOX business requests for comments.

Foley said San Francisco Standard His friends and neighbors say they stopped going to the market for a fight in front of the store.

Foley accused people of stealing groceries and food from the store's hot bar, in addition to low pedestrian traffic.

The business owner, who is also a developer, told Standard that there are several projects in the work in the area.

“It's going to get better,” Foley told Standard. “San Francisco still has Silicon Valley, Tahoe, Santa Cruz, The Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. But it's going to take some time, especially at mid-market.”
