In 2020, most parents, myself included, were shocked to hear what our children were receiving in the classroom. My daughter was also asked which pronouns she wanted to use by the first week of her 8th grade. She also learned about critical race theory when teachers asked Black, Asian, Hispanic, and LGBTQ students, “How are you oppressed?”
Of course, if you were a white kid, you couldn’t participate in the oppressive Olympics unless you were able to add LGBTQ intersectionality to your identity. Otherwise you were an oppressor. This was happening to children all over America in one way or another.
How can we actually have a market for ideas if we don’t have one?
As a former spokesperson for Moms for Liberty, I have attended numerous school board meetings. I have participated in forums, helped promote school choice policy in Florida, worked with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and various parent groups, and done everything I can to stop ideological attacks on our children. Ta.
What I witnessed in this movement gave me an insight that I want to shed light on what we are missing.
School board meetings and new laws to combat destructive curriculum and practices opened the eyes of many parents and led to a mass exodus from the public school system.
But what should you do before, during, and after a school board meeting or policy change?
Board of Education alone is not enough
Governors like DeSantis have made great strides in standing up for parents and children through legislation. Unfortunately, we have seen school districts blatantly violate passed laws, and where school boards either completely ignore or make excuses for inappropriate classroom materials. I’ve even seen it.
The organization is doing a good job by flipping school board seats and raising awareness of these inappropriate materials in schools. But simply flipping school board seats is not the answer. School board member seats are renewed at various times, defeated in elections, and require a majority of like-minded members to make changes. And I realized that just because school board members are like-minded, it doesn’t mean they have the courage to vote for their values.
how can we help children now?
These efforts are creditable, but the long march around the institutions that Marxists wanted was effective. Because their goal was to change culture, not just policy.
To effectively change culture, you need to involve people and change their mindsets. This is what I really mean. Children.
Effectively indoctrinated children grow up to become adults who implement a radical new vision in their schools, churches, businesses, and families. Therefore, there is no need to change the policy. They just do what they believe.
please think about it. Remember when leftists invaded school board meetings and demanded curriculum changes? Or that children be provided with inappropriate library books? Of course not. The left changed people’s minds (children) and they are now carrying out their will.
As conservatives, we are missing an important part of connecting with the key people who will be most affected: our children.
Parents hold the key
All of our resources, effort, and attention are spent externally, not internally. We are raising public awareness and changing school boards and policies (all external), but we are not directly reaching out to children (internal).
The left has infiltrated schools, and it speaks directly to children and influences their thinking. How can we actually have a market for ideas if we don’t have one?
Democratic Party operatives are organizing protests at K-12 schools on behalf of groups like BLM. Michelle Obama is co-chair of the organization that runs the “.my school vote“We want to help make your school a hub for civic engagement and voter registration for the entire community.”
So while we push our policies forward, our children are still being taught our ideas without any challenge.
How can we convey ideas to our children that are better than those offered by the left? This can only be done by parents. Whether you’re driving your kids to school or spending time together throughout the week, don’t let outside chatter stop you from bonding with them.
Parents are the best answer to countering the attacks faced by their children and the next generation. Not just by involving parents in school board meetings, but by helping them connect with their children and teaching them how to think critically about the absurdities of public schools. .
We train them along the path they need to take by fostering meaningful connections and showing them that we, not the teacher or school, are their biggest allies.
Our voice as parents should be the strongest voice in our children’s lives. I fear that if we miss this important element of the conservative movement, the next generation of kids will be even more to the left than the kids pulling the strings in America today.
