Getting a table at a top-tier restaurant can be quite a challenge, but for once, Los Angeles is making it easier. No need for passports or extensive waiting lists this time.
The acclaimed Tonkatsu Seizo from Tokyo, often hailed as one of the world’s best places to enjoy tonkatsu, is planning a special two-night event at Brothers Sushi this month. According to Eater, this is something not to miss.
If you’ve attempted to get a reservation at Narikura, you’ll understand just how difficult it can be. This intimate eatery in Tokyo is notorious for its hard-to-get tables, and securing one feels almost like winning the lottery for food enthusiasts.
As someone remarked, “Oh my god, this place is not reservable,” referencing it as challenging as making a booking at a ramen joint like Shima. It seems some reservations out there can be tougher to land than a spot at an omakase.
Indeed, another comment echoed this sentiment: “I think we were quite fortunate to snag our reservation,” which feels quite relatable to anyone who has tried.
Chef Seizo Mitani, who’s flying in from Japan, will collaborate with Mark Okudah, the chef and owner of Brothers Sushi. This exclusive event will take place in Culver City on Sunday, July 19th, followed by another session in Santa Monica on Monday, July 20th.
This partnership promises to deliver Seizo’s renowned “Blonde” Tonkatsu, which differs from the typical American styles. Instead of a dark, quickly fried version, this dish is slow-cooked at lower temperatures to achieve a lighter golden crust, allowing the flavors to shine. Additionally, Chef Mitani brings special breadcrumbs all the way from Japan to create mouthwatering dishes featuring premium Japanese pork.
For $150, diners can enjoy a six-course meal that includes rice, soup, and dessert. Reservations can be made via Tock for both locations: Culver City and Santa Monica.
For LA residents, this could be the easiest way to try Narikura’s offerings without a trip to Tokyo. The only challenge now is to be quicker than everyone else to get a reservation, which, of course, adds a bit of excitement!
