Disney World Attendance Drops in June

Disney World experienced a noticeable decline in attendance this June, marked by lower visitor numbers and an unusual lack of crowds during peak times.

Recent statistics from June show a stark difference compared to past summers, highlighting the trend. Feedback on social media indicates a more subdued atmosphere in the park, quite unlike the vibrant energy typically found at Disney World during this season. Some users mentioned the odd feeling of encountering such low crowds, raising questions about whether this might be linked to economic factors.

The economic situation has increasingly impacted Disney World, with families feeling the pinch of rising vacation costs. Higher admission rates, along with escalating prices for accommodations and meals, mean that many are more conscious of their budgets when planning outings.

This summer has also brought exceptionally high temperatures in Central Florida, which might deter some potential visitors. It seems possible that fans are opting to visit during cooler months, such as September or October. Additionally, competing attractions nearby are drawing attention away from Disney. A recently opened park has captivated families eager for new experiences, leading some to choose it over their usual Disney trips, contributing to the drop in attendance.

According to data from TouringPlans.com, attendance at Disney properties is at one of the lowest levels recorded in the past decade. The only comparable June was in 2021, during the pandemic when the park was still closed in 2020. If the current trend continues, one could jokingly rename “Cool Kid Summer” to “Ghost Town Summer.”

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Disney executives were privately worried that the spike in ticket prices might alienate their core middle-class audience. Internal investigations indicated a decrease in guests planning to visit Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

It’s worth noting that participation costs have escalated significantly in recent years. An analysis revealed that the cost of a typical four-day stay increased by about $1,000 from 2019 to 2024, with nearly 80% of that rise attributed to new charges for services that used to be complimentary.
