The Number-One Political Virtue Needed Right Now Is Courage and Trump Has That in Spades

“We are facing an increasing clampdown on repression, censorship, mass surveillance, ideological indoctrination and the criminalization of political dissent. This is not normal,” writer and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza told Breitbart News.

D'Souza appeared with Breitbart News Daily host Mike Slater on SiriusXM Patriot Channel 125 to talk about the new film. Vindicating TrumpThe documentary's director has said it's “pro-Trump,” and the film's centerpiece is a one-on-one interview with former President Donald Trump.

listen:

“I asked him a lot of surprising questions and got him to reflect on things in a really interesting way,” DeSouza said. “So the film defends Trump, but it's not a naive defense of Trump in the sense of, 'I don't like the guy, but I support his policies,' or, 'I wish he'd just shut up.' There are a lot of different defenses of Trump, but my defense is that in this moment, and in the crisis that the country is going through, Trump doesn't need to be reformed or rehabilitated. We don't need a new Trump. He's the right man for this moment.”

Not only has Donald Trump survived two assassination attempts, “look at how he's responded to 91 criminal indictments. Any other Republican facing five criminal indictments would have fled the field and would actually be in the fetal position under his desk right now. In that sense, Trump is alone,” DeSouza said.

“This guy has extraordinary tenacity, almost to a superhuman level,” D'Souza added. D'Souza acknowledged that some people have tried to undermine that point, saying, “'He's a vain man, he was a playboy.' Well, I'll accept that. But it doesn't make sense to say, 'You know, he bankrupted his father's store, he uses a lot of dirty language, he drinks too much,' just like General Grant was a right man in the Civil War. So what? Isn't he the kind of man who can lead the Union to victory? I'd say the same thing about Trump now.”

D'Souza accused the mainstream media of “poisoning” a significant portion of Americans into believing that Donald Trump is a “dictator” or a “Hitler” or a “threat to democracy.”

But he reminded people that they already know what a Trump administration would be like: “People were yelling about Hillary, 'Lock her up, lock her up!' [at Trump’s 2016 rallies]but Trump didn't. In fact, he didn't jail or even indict a single Democratic leader. Not one. He's much less a dictator… Dictators usually control the police agencies of their government, right? He didn't control his own police agencies. They were going after him even under his own administration… The threat of tyranny or dictatorship is not real.”

Predicting what Trump's second administration will be like, DeSouza said, “We're in for another very eventful four years.”

“That's how we're portrayed in the film,” he continued. “From the beginning, they've been trying to assassinate Trump in a certain way. They start with character attacks. When that fails, or at least when that doesn't work, the next step is a legal assassination. I say legal assassination. Think of the word 'loafer,' which is derived from the word 'war.' Their goal is to lock Trump up for life. What else is this but a kind of political assassination? And when that fails, there's an actual assassination attempt. And who knows if the second one will be the last. So I think this country is going through a very dangerous time. Part of it, the root of it is the fact that the left has poisoned a significant number of Americans through the media. Maybe not the majority, but they've poisoned a large percentage of Americans. Somehow, this kind of tactic, this kind of tactic is not over the line.”

D'Souza's films, Trump's vindicationIt will be released in theaters nationwide from September 27th.
